Beyond the ordinary

Bookkeeping shouldn't just mean somebody entering numbers into a spreadsheet once a month. That's the ordinary version, and it's exactly what I don't do.

What you get with Smith Bookkeeping is someone who actually looks — monthly reconciliation done right, cash flow you can see coming instead of getting hit by, payroll set up so it doesn't turn into a liability, and tax prep that starts in January instead of a shoebox handed over in April. I bring the same mindset to your books that I brought to 18+ years of reading a situation fast and finding what's actually true: no guessing, no surface-level checks, no waiting until something's already gone wrong.

That's the difference between ordinary bookkeeping and what we do here. Beyond the ordinary isn't a tagline I picked because it sounded good — it's the standard I hold every set of books to.

We can MEet all of your Accounting needs, In person or virtually.

Some clients want to sit down across the table, hand me a folder, and talk it through face to face. Others just want their books handled without ever needing to leave their shop or their kitchen table. Either way works for me.

I meet clients in person around Central New York when that's what makes sense, and I work just as thoroughly with clients virtually — secure document sharing, video calls, whatever gets your books handled without adding one more thing to your plate. The method doesn't change the standard. Whether I'm sitting across from you or working through a screen, you're getting the same straight read on your numbers, the same attention to what's actually going on, and the same no-drama approach.

You run your business your way. I just make sure it works with how you actually operate — in person, virtual, or a mix of both.

Our services

Every business needs the same basic things done right — clean books, accurate payroll, a clear read on cash flow, and taxes that don't turn into a scramble every spring. That's the core of what I do, no matter what kind of business you're running.

Monthly bookkeeping — reconciled accounts, categorized transactions, and a clear picture of where you actually stand, every month, not just at tax time.

Payroll management — set up right the first time, so it runs quietly in the background instead of becoming its own liability.

Cash flow tracking — a real forecast, not a guess, so you see problems coming instead of reacting to them.

Tax preparation and planning — handled year-round, so April is a formality instead of an emergency.

I don't overcomplicate any of it, and I don't hand you a report full of jargon and walk away. You get a straight answer on where your business stands and what to do next — that's the whole job.
