I'm Steve — bookkeeper, former EMS provider, and dad to three teenagers who've taught me more about budgeting for the unexpected than any class ever could. For 18+ years, I showed up to other people's worst days and learned to find what was actually wrong versus what just looked bad. Bookkeeping isn't so different. Whatever shape your books are in, I've probably seen worse, and it's not my job to make you feel bad about it. What I do is cut through the panic, find what's real, and give you a straight, honest read on where your business stands — no jargon, no drama, no lectures. Just the data, laid out plainly, so you can make real decisions instead of guessing
Our journey and passion
Smith Bookkeeping didn't start with a business plan. It started with me being good at something — numbers, structure, seeing what was actually going on in a mess — and not having a clue how to turn that into a real business. That's where my partner Jess came in. She didn't hand me a blueprint and walk away. She helped me build the structure underneath what I was already good at — the entity, the pricing, the systems — while I did what I do best: the actual work with clients.
That partnership is the reason Smith Bookkeeping exists at all, and it shapes how I run it today. I'm not interested in overcomplicating your finances or talking over your head. I'm interested in giving you the same thing I got — someone who looks at what's real, cuts through the noise, and helps you build something that actually holds up.

That's 18+ years of EMS experience, and it's still exactly how I approach your books.
